To some, she is Sin City.
The Las Vegas showgirl is an icon, a larger-than-life staple of the entertainment scene. For Tricky Tatiana, a performer in Las Vegas’ newest burlesque show, BurlesQ, channeling the showgirl mystique is what she loves to do.
“Of course, I think BurlesQ is the sexiest show in Vegas. But what makes it extra special is that we pay homage to the traditional Vegas showgirl, something that I feel needs more representation on the Strip,” she says.
“When one thinks of Vegas, the iconic showgirl immediately comes to mind. A beautiful woman, in a beautiful, bedazzled costume, performing in a Vegas production show on the Strip. It's time for her comeback, and I feel like BurlesQ is helping with that.”
Tricky Tatiana, whose real name is Tonya Tovias, has been dancing since she was five years old. Originally from California, she’s forged an impressive Las Vegas dance career. Being a Sin City showgirl performing to adoring crowds is a dream job, but it’s competitive- you need real talent to last in this industry.
“I have been very fortunate that I've been dancing professionally for so long now. I grew up in a small town, so I never thought I could make a career out of dancing, but here I am,” Tovias says.
“I have a lot of great memories performing and living here in Vegas, but I think the one that stands out the most was when I booked my first Vegas production show.”
Now, Tovias is Tricky Tatiana, one of the six women alluring audiences in BurlesQ. The show takes the showgirl idea and runs away with it, adding a sexy, modern touch to a classic trope.
“BurlesQ is for anyone and everyone that loves and appreciates burlesque and celebrating the art of the tease,” Tovias explains.
“BurlesQ is great since it's so accepting of different looks and body types. There is someone for everyone that comes to see the show since we are a varied-looking cast. All six performers in the show are technically trained dancers who have performed in other productions on the Vegas Strip. Our audience is made up of a lot of couples, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and people that just want to see a fun, sexy show.”
The real power behind the show is the talent and chemistry evinced by the performers. BurlesQ features six dazzling women, a hilarious emcee-extraordinaire Sean E. Cooper, and America's foremost female ventriloquist April Brucker. The curtain rises Thursday through Sunday nights at 9:30 pm at the Alexis Park Resort. “Every girl in the cast adds something special to the mix, and that's what makes our show so special; every girl and her ‘magic’ is important,” Tovias says.
